What's been going on.

So I've been pretty lazy with the blog thing. Here's an update.

I got a new snowboard earlier this year. It's a Technine Chalk 151, from the True Love series; the company's first line of women's snowboards. It's so much lighter than my last board, which was probably one of the first women specific boards ever...it didn't even have a model name! It was just a K2.

I also bought my first set of golf clubs this fall. I tried golfing this summer, and got to play in the company tournament. However, I still have not yet used my clubs. The weekend I bought them (HUGE sale), all the courses closed, and we also got a shitload of snow. So now I have to wait for late spring. Sometimes I just stand in my apartment and hold the clubs. I take slow swings to avoid hitting the walls. It's almost as fun as real golf.

My birthday was just last week, and Dub was awesome and got me a dozen rozes, AND a blue iPod!!

The latest thing I've done was go to the ski hill for the first time. It just opened, here's me.

That's pretty much it for now. Greg and I are going to Winnipeg tomorrow to visit his family for a week. We get to have Christmas on Saturday! Weeee!

Weekend in Calgary

This past weekend I went to Calgary to visit Meghan and Amy. Meghan is working at a cupcake shop right now called Crave. So she made me a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.....so delicious! Saturday Meghan and I went downtown to go up the Calgary Tower. It turned out to be closed, so instead we went to the Olympic Park on Sunday, which was waaaay better! At Holt Renfrew (a place that we did not belong) we got our make up done for going out. We went to a place called Ranchman's, which we were told played everything, but actually only played country music. It was still fun, and Amy had her first tequila shot! Totally have to move to Calgary!

Here are the pics!

This is at the Olympic Park. This is the 90m ski jump from the outside. They don't use it anymore because ski jumping technique has changed.

Road Trip to Winnipeg and back!

Last week Dub and I drove to Winnipeg to visit his parents. I have to say, Winnipeg is a place I never think about, but it's actually a really nice city! The streets are all tree-lined with nice big leafy trees, and the downtown is really nice with the rivers running through it. I also have to say, that, Saskatchewan as a whole, friggin' blows! We drove for two hours trying to find a place to eat, and spent half a tank of gas looking for a gas station. Saskatoon did seem like a pretty city, but the only cool thing about driving through Saskatchewan, was driving past this town...

P1010033  Afghanistan or Canada?

Here are pictures from Winnipeg.

P1010034 This is The Forks in downtown. It's a really nice park, with trails along the river, and a cool telescope thing that I didn't get a picture of.

P9270340 Another picture of The Forks. This is the needle bridge thing. There's a restaurant on it that hangs out over the river called the Salisbury House. We figured it sounded like a nice steak place, and decided to take Dub's mom out for a fancy dinner. This place turned out to be a 50's style diner with a motorcycle hanging from the ceiling. It also just so happened to be 75 cent Tuesday!

P9260335 Portage and Main. This street corner claims to be the windiest in Canada. Gotta say, not so windy. I'm sure I was just there on a calm day. But I'd give windiest corner in Canada to the corner of Tower and Tower field.

P9250276

Dub and I went with his parents to A Maze in Corn. This is a 10 acre corn maze with a scavenger hunt to complete. It was girls vs. guys. The guys won, but they didn't stick to the maze trail, and Dub could see over most of the corn, so their victory doesn't really count.

P9250288 I'm sure this is the fattest racoon in the world! We went to the Assiniboine Park Zoo, which apparently has the second largest collection of animals in Canada, and this racoon managed to get off the grassy area, and was too fat to get back up. So it is now doomed to circle the grassy area in this cement ditch for the rest of it's life. Or at least until a zoo person helps it back up.

P9250319 These are some fish at the zoo. I just really like this picture - I think it's background worthy.

So that's a summary of our trip to Winnipeg. Definately worth visiting during a drive across Canada.

The Edmonton Oilers were in town this weekend for their training camp, and I managed to snag a ticket to their inner-squad game. Even though it wasn't a real game, it was still pretty exciting. It's the only professional sporting event I've ever seen, and people here LOVE the Oilers! Here are some pictures from the game.

Shawn Horcoff (10) in the centre. He scored most of the goals in this game, and I guess it was his birthday too!

The blue side won! Again...the flash didn't reach that far.

I'm a golfer!

Over the weekend I took part in a Corporate Challenge. It's a competition between different companies around the city. It consists of different sporting competitions, and not so sporty competitions (poker, darts). I competed in the golf tournament. I had only been to a driving range once before this summer, so when I signed up for the golf tournament, I had to put in some more time. It was a best ball tournament, and we had to use at least 3 drives from each person, two of mine were actually the best drives. We dressed up, and won the spirit award, which turned out to be gift certificates for the course! Here's a pic! I'm the short one.
